About Charlene

Charlene You began her piano studies at the age of four. In her native country, she was a winner of several piano competitions at a very young age, including the Municipal Competition and Yamaha Competition. She moved to the United States to continue her studies in various music concentrations in 1999.
Ms. You holds multiple music degrees, emphasizing in Theory and Composition and Piano Performance and Pedagogy. She began teaching piano lessons in 2000 and has served as Church Music Director, High School Choir Director and music school head teacher. Ms You is also a celebrated accompanist for numerous events, including Young Artist Competition held by Chicago Symphony Orchestra. 

Due to her previous training and expertise, she recognizes music theory as the foundation for students to start and build their music dreams and always blends music theory into ordinary piano lessons. Students who study with her do not need to take extra classes for music theory, unless otherwise required by parents or in preparation for college entrance or examination. 
Charlene resides in Stone Oak area with her husband, who is a research scientist, and their preschooler boy. She currently teaches at home and at varies schools including Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children, Saint Mary's Hall, and serves as the on-call accompanist for other NEISD schools. She has endless passion and love in music education and is wiling to give what she has to more students and families. She is also a current member of MTNA, TMTA and SAMTA.
Outside of her teaching, she enjoys gourmet cooking and loves exploring cultural topics 
and is an active volunteer at various charity organizations.
